Raptor DNA Profiling
Biobest now offer a Raptor DNA Profiling service. This service utilises recent advances in laboratory techniques to enable us to determine your falcon's unique DNA profile. The service will be of interest to breeders and owners, with the following benefits:
- compare your falcon's profile with other birds, in order to identify the likelihood of the birds being related or not (comparisons between parents and offspring, siblings etc). This is useful in particular to prove bloodlines
- use the profile as evidence of an individual bird's identity for future security
- compare the profile with a historical sample, to provide proof of identity (for lost and found)
The service is available for £50 (+ VAT) per DNA profile. The price includes provision of a certificate with a photograph (owner supplied). If more than one sample is profiled then a comparison and interpretation with regard to commonality of DNA and likely degree of relatedness will also be supplied. In addition, a combined raptor DNA profiling and sexing service (from the same sample) is currently available for the special price of £60 (+ VAT).
The raptor DNA profiling service is currently available for Golden Eagle, Gyr, Saker, Goshawk, Peregrine and crosses between these species. New species will be available in due course. An article with more details about raptor DNA profiling is available.
